It is hotter than Hell in India so just assuming you are trying to establish communication in air conditioned comfort of a running vehicle? Maybe on some make and models it requires key on engine off to establish communication in auto vin mode? Sometimes prompts turning key off for 10 seconds , then turning key on.  If no luck send a datalog and try to enter the vehicle manually.

Have you tried with any other tool to see if it will communicate with all other modules.............?

 can you try to manually select a "Skoda Octavia" ?

It seems that the "Laura" of India is sold in Europe as "Octavia" and a manual selection may help.
Also I use Volkswagen software once and there was as kind of "auto search" feature. May also help..
