Using a MaxiDAS with Chrysler V7.11 on a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Limited 4.7, I am trying to access the HVAC module:

Main >> Control Unit >> Body >> HVAC

It is unable to read the module, and I get a response "Unknown control unit variant id:8203".  In addition, when I do a full scan, this module reports back with a "-?-" .

Most of the functions on the module appear to be working, and the only thing I'm trying to investigate/repair is a blend-door travel problem.

Does anyone know what this error implies?  Thanks.

I've seen odd stuff like this when connected to a Chrysler without the Chrysler 16 adapter. I worked on a liberty a few weeks ago and connected to it straight from a ford I was working on, didn't even think to change adapters. I knew what I had done as soon as all the live data was displayed with out the first PID name showing up. Reconnected with the Chrysler 16 adapter and there they were. I have also seen these adapters go bad, Do you know anyone you can barrow a cable & Chrysler adapter from to test?

I have tried it with both the ODB II and Chrysler-16 adapters with the same results.   I can access the HVAC module on a 2008 Jeep Liberty, but not on this 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I should mention that I know this model year's Manual Temperature Control HVAC module cannot be accessed via the bus and scanned, but I'm trying to connect to an Automatic Temperature Control HVAC module which is supposed to be accessible (according to the Factory Service Manual).

Can you provide an update on this?  You stated that you have found the problem, but the Chrysler software version is still 7.11, and hasn't been updated since 2014.
