I just purchased a MaxiDAS DS708 trying to read my 1998 Dodge Dakota airbag codes and this is the message I get when using the provided Chrysler 16 pin CCD connector:

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?  I've read reports of others using the DS708 to retrieve 98/99 Chrysler airbag codes, but haven't seen what specifically they've done to do so.  Again, I'm using the CCD connector provided in the MaxiDAS kit and using the Chrysler software under the USA manufacturer menu.  It did read two ABS codes that have never illuminated the ABS light, but I was unable to clear them or reset them.  The airbag light just came on in my truck about a month ago and I've been trying to scan the codes ever since.  I've purchased and returned two other scanners trying to get to the bottom of this issue and would really like to resolve it.  Please help.

Important note I forgot to mention: I did all the available updates once I registered the device, and the Chrysler version is 7.11.

Whether or not you start off using the Chrysler 16 connector or not , it will display that message for information to use it. Did you click ok  , and just get a no communication message?
Can you do an auto scan and see if it detects the ABS and SRS modules without a exclamation mark?

I did try an auto scan and the only thing it came up with is two ABS codes unrelated to the airbags.  If I try to manually connect to the ORC as the function list says I should be able to, it gives me that error.

Just for reference, here are the two ABS codes it has...

And also, the error message when I try to manually connect to the ORC...

Something has a VIN mismatch. See if the PCM VIN agree with vehicle VIN #,   if ok ,then  Try unplugging the ABS module and try to see if you can then communicate with the airbag module.

The VIN mismatch is due to a different ECM being installed some 10 years ago when I replaced the 3.9L V6 with a 5.2L V8. It has run like that without any issues for all those 10 years, never an ABS light or airbag light. In addition to that, the Autel DS708 will not read the VIN information from the ECM to verify the VIN mismatch. Is there an Autel product that can read VIN info from a 98 Dodge AND reprogram the ECM with the correct VIN #???  Thanks for your help.

i think the vin write is in special functions.... as far as the air bag code/s did you look on all data or mitchel its not just plug and scan for thos vehicles!!!
