I have a Mini Cooper with this problem (analog speedo doesn´t respond and lights are out), the lcd "inside" the speedo works just fine.

The tachometer and digital speedo works!

The faultcode says something about a relay and i only had time to check all fuses (that were ok) Before the day ended.

Anybody have any experience with these cars and maybe a hint on where to start?
