When I am trying to run automatic detection and read key information on most of the keys I am getting a message "Chip communication failed". Is it normal or indicates an issue with my IM608 scanner?

Can you still make keys using the programmer? Can you not read any chip?

Most likely you had the programmer hooked up to the OBD by accident? If so, it's fried, you can have it repaired by Autel for not that much of an amount of dollars... just send them a mail at support@autel.com

I have not had a chance to use a programmer to make keys but all the key fobs that I had in my possession I was able to read with VVDI Key Tool Max but not with Autel programmer. It is brand new not fried, I have never connected it to OBD or used incorrect USB cable.

Read the key chip with the VVDI write it down then with the Autel check in manual selection menu if that key chip type is in the selections that are available. If it is not listed then chip not supported by in Programmer of XP400.The newer XP400 Pro supports more chips.
