I am in USA and i am trying to add a smart key to my 2009 nissan altima hybrid. I keep getting a failure to establish communication when using the guided . I can scan with immo status and i get dtc engine fail and i cannot clear it, keeps failing. What could the issue be?

Did you make sure the chip type of provided key matches the chip type of the existing working key? Did you test the RKE output of the buttons and fobik battery?Did you perform an  immobilizer status scan and clear codes before attempting to add the key?
here is a link to an All Keys Lost scenario if it is necessary to erase all keys first. Make sure to get all customer existing keys before erasing all keys.

Yes to all above. It fails at verify pin execution, says communication fail and says
steering wheel unlocked from learning mode.

On some I think the hazard lights may need to be on and all keys erased. On a Non smart key Nisan I once used a Maxisys a few years ago I downloaded a App call BCM Calculator to my phone and was able to generate a  PIN that worked trying some numbers off a label of the BCM or key transponder module
