updated to new s/w version. Screen showed updating, finished, unplugged it. Won't power up now. Took it apart, unplugged battery, plugged back in, nothing. Tried with power cord plugged in with battery disconnected, nothing.

I remember seeing something similar happened to somebody else on this form once before. Could not find that post. Any ideas? Thanks.

Here's what you are looking for but it doesn't apply to the 401,

After you put it back together and charge the battery hold down the "N" button while plugging in the USB cable and this should let you use MaxiLinkII v-1.04 to re-flash. BE SURE to do both the program and the DTC. And pick the right settings in the program.
Let us know how it turns out.
    Thanks

Thanks. Tried the steps you suggested. Charged battery first. Held down N button while plugging in USB. No success, yet.

Tried holding down other buttons while plugging in USB, no luck.

    Thanks anyway.

Sorry it didn't work, Holding down the "N" button while powering on places it in update mode. So with the unit off, with the "N" button down, plugging it in to the USB cable that is plugged into a laptop should have powered it on and placed it in update mode. Mine locked up with the screen scrambled and this was the only way I could recover it. I stumbled on this by accident a few versions ago.
Good luck getting yours going, It's a great little tool, If you have to replace luckily the price has come way down.
    Thx

Glad you got yours working. Thanks for the tips. Tried mine a lot of ways, including those. It's smoked.

Yes, good price on tool.  It was actually a back up to my OTC 3834 pressure sensor tool with the Genisys EVO and blue tooth dongle.

I like the Remote key fob checking feature too. I just got another one on Ebay already updated. $112
