Not everyone utilizes the scope during  diagnostics , so the VCMI of the 919 and Ultra is large and unwieldy and more vulnerable to some sort of a mishap eventually IMO. Why not be able to just plug an MP408 or Autel multimeter into the VCI by USB cable  so they too could work with  basically the same scope software of the Ultra and 919 (Albeit you would forgo the internal battery of the VCMI and the ability to scope the CAN network directly from the 16 pin connector  each use.Sure would beat the stand alone Maxi Scope App the MS908 has and you wouldn't have the big bulky VCMI 3 in one set up of the 919 and Ultra  to drag around all the time if you aren't using the scope or meter every time.
