There is no dedicated pamphlet that I know of to simplify locating and identifying the DLC connector style and location, and what style connector is or is not used in certain geographic areas of the globe of these older post 1996 vehicles that generally had the OBD 2 16 pin connector to comply with generic OBD2 data retrieval, but not much else could be done off the 16 pin connector for a number of years after 1996. You had to look for the second proprietary OBD1 style connector under the hood or instrument panel to be able to communicate with the engine controller to access bi-directional testing, special functions, and also to communicate with other modules than only the engine controller.
First of all , the car needs be a 1996 or newer have (OBD2) and be in the software data base of DS 708. If the DS 708 does not power up from the old proprietary style connector, then check for a blown fuse or supply auxiliary power to the DS708 from the battery clips or lighter adapter and try to communicate again.
