I have a DS708 that update period expired August of 2014. I recall it wouldn't communicate with ABS module on a 2002 Dodge Durango. The software version of old Chrysler software is 7.10 and last the last time I checked the current DS708 version level only was .01 or .02 of a decimal point higher, so update level has not increased at least one complete whole number or more larger, so to me that tells me not much has changed.
