 i had a ford e250 5.4 engine which was killing the #2 coil in days.....install new and #2 coil failure again... turned out to be a control wire for the coil shorting on the hot emission pipe which was keeping the coil powered up for ?? time when it should only be turned on for millisecs... but with the short, my scope showed continues ground for mins!!!!!!! sounds like might be a simular problem....something to check out.   hope this helps out some..
