i did buy an ebay cable a while back. but the problem i had was actually locating an old laptop running xp, that was actually functional. couldn't get those programs to even run on my old acer eee pc while in xp mode. just too much hassle.

i did however have success retrieving the skc with the ebay "super vag K+CAN" tool. ran maybe 50$ shipped from china. but it did produce a good SKC code. a few minutes ago i was able to then use my maxisys mini to successfully program keys on my 2000 TDI golf. pretty simple process once you know what you're looking at. confused me for a bit as it doesn't prompt you to cycle thru the keys. but it did work. if anybody needs the link to the scan tool from ebay i used, let me know and i'll add a link.

you didnt need to swithc tools the super would do that also along with miles, calibration, immo off, etc.

ya, i realize i could've just used that tool to adapt the keys, but since i was also playing around with other items, it made sense to try it to see if the maxisys could even do it. i've got a list of issues with the car, like any other 260k TDI. over-boosting, door modules needing soldered, glow plug short in the harness, the list goes on...

the last time i tried was maybe a week ago with the current software at that time. not sure if i'm missing an update in the last few days, but it didn't work on either my 2000 golf or 2000 jetta.

i have an 03 TDI jetta that belongs to a friend that i'm doing some rocker repair to. ( he went off-roading ) since this car is square button key, i'm almost 100% sure it's immo3, as opposed to my immo2 cars. i'll be trying the Autel pin read function out of curiosity to see if it works. i'll post back here after with results if it works
