LOL,  Check if the  the latch mechanism isn't  just stuck in the closed position. If it is stuck closed,  then the trunk light might not be lit while lid is open . Pop the latch mechanism back open with a screw driver while pressing the trunk release button, then try again gently. Lots of Cadillac s have softclose trunks with electrical pulldown, so you typically don't slam trunk lids closed on those.
