I saw an Autel video where it claims the Auto VIN feature will auto ID most 2006 and up vehicles. Though it does seem to work on some earlier model makes and model years. Always  seems to work best if you just select the make and manually enter the VIN from right off the start. Be careful not to mistake a B as an 8 or a A as a 4.

 My Maxicom MK808BT does the same thing on my 2004 L322 Range Rover. You have to hit the manual vin button and it will take you to another screen and select 2002 to 2005 model year and your in. communication with the older Rovers is pretty slow so just wait for it. Auto Read is only for 2006 model and up.
