while replacing the vgt actuator on a 2014 I chose the prealignment and it failed. Then I chose the Turbo actuator pre-align/self calibrate and it worked for me. I was replacing the actuator so I had the new one plugged in but not installed when I started the test and it pre-aligned then the scanner said to install the actuator which I did then pressed OK. At that point it did the self-calibrate and completed successfully. As this was a 2 part process (pre-align- install actuator-self calibrate) with the scanner on and key on I had a battery charger on the battery just to be sure the battery didn't drain down in the middle of the process.
