2013 Santa Fe Cam Loud Ticking Bank 1,2 intake camshaft desired position does not change

    Hi,

    With 185,000km the vehicle was driving fine on the highway and then suddenly lost power. The vehicle was still running but seemed like it went into limp mode. Pulled over and turned the engine off, then back on and that's when the loud ticking started, but no error codes showed up. Took it to a shop and they said it needs a new engine but I think that's BS and don't believe the did much diagnostics as they wouldn't specify what they did. I bought the AP200 and obtained the error codes (after it was at the shop) of:

    1. P0014 'B(Exhaust)' Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)
    2. P0021 'A(Intake)' Camshaft Position-Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 2)
    3. P0024 'B(Exhaust)' Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 2)
    4. P0306 Cylinder 6-Misfire detected

    I then went to do some more diagnostics the next day and the error codes disappeared, I didn't clear them. After running the engine with the constant ticking for more then an hour no error codes have come back. Doing some testing with the live data I found that the camshaft intake desired position is not changing regardless of RPM and the actual position follows the 0.02 degrees within +/- 0.1 degrees:

    119 [119]IN-Cam Bank2 Desired Position 0.02 DEG

    121 [121]IN-Cam Phaser 1 Duty Cycle 0.00 %
    122 [122]IN-Cam Phaser 2 Duty Cycle 0.00 %
    Exhaust:
    125 [125]EX-Cam Bank1 Desired Position -10.90 DEG
    126 [126]EX-Cam Bank1 Actual Position -10.55 DEG
    127 [127]EX-Cam Bank2 Desired Position -10.90 DEG
    128 [128]EX-Cam Bank2 Actual Position -11.27 DEG
    129 [129]EX-Cam Phaser 1 Duty Cycle 41.96 %
    130 [130]EX-Cam Phaser 2 Duty Cycle 41.18 %


    So my question is, is this normal? I am assuming it is not and the timing should be changing as the RPM changes, but is this an issue with the ECU or the camshaft sensors or something else even though there is no error codes and the engine runs fine except for the loud ticking?

    Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
