There seems to be some confusion in the field over flashing. I have heard from a reputable source that getting the flash off of the Autel server will set some counter in the PCM that GM can read and then possibly void warranties, where if you use the J2534, their software and connect to their site while flashing everything will be fine. Can someone confirm this.

Good question, this came up in a training session for flashing and the trainer was discussing this. He does both his own J2534 flashing and supports Autel on his own. He was saying in some cases some TSBs and flashes will not be done by the dealer for free and in those cases, you willnot want to lose the business to the dealer. Also, there is some discussion about emissions tests in the near future will be checking for non dealer flashes, mostly around performance tuning, but if the GM flash done that is not through the GM server will not pass because of some unset bit, this will cause the owner an issue.
