J2534 tool won't connect to pc through usb cable.Installed disk and downloaded drivers on two different P.C.'s. Still shows disconnected. But it will connect to the Maxisys Pro tablet. I was also able to update the j2534 with the latest software through the tablet. What am I missing?

The power supply must be connected to the J2534 tool.
The tool does not receive power from the PC’s Ethernet or USB ports.
Usually the power supply is not needed when the tool is connected to the vehicle OBD port, there is some exemptions.

Yes, I forgot to add that the power supply is connected.

Update: I took a chance and bought GM subscription for replacing ecm, crossed my fingers and hoped that it would communicate with car, it did, and everything went smoothly. this was my first time/ first use of this tool.

I was too nervous to try a GM and still haven't flashed anything yet. What year was it? My MaxiSys for some reason only shows me programming options for 2006-2010
