I had an issue with Jaguar version 2.30 on the MD802.  It would not connect to any systems on a  2008 XJ (not supercharged), however it worked just fine on a 2004 X-Type 3.0.  For the 2008 XJ, I had to revert back to version 2.0 to get the job done.

 i purchased my maxidiag elite 802 because it can read cars from 1996 and newer, I have a 1997 bmw540i and my scan tool does't recognise my car. the the cable fits it okay since it's an obdII. On the bmw menu it lists cars from 1998 and newer. what gives. Why wouldn't it cover 96 or 97 model 540i's?   

 The older BMWs have the round 20 pin connector under the hood, you'll need an adapter. Even then, I've run into trouble with the current software on the older BMWs, I've had to revert to the original version that came with my unit (1.0 or so??  I kept the original SD card intact, did updates on a new card).

 Hello Jason, my car is a 97 540i it's an E39. from 97-03. the obdII cable fits it fine but wont connect. I have a jeep and a ford super crew and the scanner picks up the vin # year and all the info automatically. On my bmw it takes me to a menu and I select all the info manually. It lists different versions of my vehicle some of them even give the option to select 97 and newer. however when I scan, it goes through the engine and tranny in a hurry but doesn't recognize my air bags or anti lock brake system. I don't know if  they offer earlier software or if the one I have is the oldest one they offer. I don't know if they offer an update. I'm thinking about sending my scanner back. I specifically bought it to diagnose my airbag light on the dash. I saw a video on you tube of a bmw like mine, with the same light on. The problem was found in a hurry. It's the same vehicle an e39. thanks for the reply
