I am in the same spot you are. we just bought ds708 and ts401 but I cant register or update. how is this issue resolved?

 I can't help you with the registration portion, but I just updated my TS401 to V2.42. Here's how I did it:

1.Go to: http://www.auteltech.com/autelcms/TPMS%20Diagnostic%20&%20Service%20Tool/403.jhtml
2. Click on DOWNLOADS tab
3. Download the file named TS401V2.42_V2.42.rar
4. Unzip this file. I had to download a free software called Express Zip to unzip the .rar file. You can Google how to open .rar files if you have any issues.
5. Follow the instructions in your User Manual to complete the update. The file you are selecting to update is the .bin file that is located in the folder that was unzipped.

I'm not sure why Autel has removed the TS401 from registration. Mine was registered already, but is no longer listed in my devices under my account. And since the latest software is avail for free, it seems they are no longer going to be updating this tool. Just an assumption, I have no affiliation with Autel.

 This update still only provides up to the year 2012. I need to get the update for 2013, 2014 and if 2015 is available. How is this going to be resolved? Please advise. Thank you.

Downloaded the update for the ts401and when i try to update it say wrong software ?

 I cannot get the maxilink (v1.03) to see my TS401 tool to do the update. I am running Windows 8.1.  Tried running in various compatibility modes including XP and no success.  Is there a newer version of maxilink that works in windows 8.1

   

OK.  I solved this problem.  I figured it out by loading the maxilink2 software on an old XP computer and noticed that it loaded the driver called ...."stm32 virtual com port driver" when I plugged in the TS401 to the USB port.

The solution is to search the internet for "stm32 virtual com port driver windows 8", the 1st link took me to the website for the STMicroelectronis web site and in fact directly to the driver I needed.  I installed the 64 bit version on my windows 8.1 laptop, opened maxilink2 utility, navigated to the TS401 device and viola....the banner in the top right turned green as it should when it recognizes the TS401 device.  The update went smoothly to v2.42
