Before I powering up the brand new unit , I had my son copy the 4GB card it was shipped with to my PC . Space of file is appox 2.1GB.
I bought a 16GB Sandisk Class 10 SD card from Walmart for less than $22 out the door. My son slipped the 16GB card in the card reader and transferred the copied files from PC to the 16GB card.
Put the 16GB card in the DS 708 , attached ethernet cable from DS 708 to the router and turned the unit on and it powered up fine. My son selected register unit and the screen displayed lines of little boxes and Chinese text on top or bottom and my son thought there might be software compatability problem,
however , After installing the shipped CD to the PC and opening program on the PC , My son somehow was able to get the DS 708 registration screen to appear in English . Note When first entering serial number and password, the unit's password has to be retreived from the unit, It's Not just some random password you can just make up and enter.
After registering unit successfully I then updated the DS 708 software program to version 5, installing all makes , then did all make updates (using supplied ethernet cord). The space used for software programs and updates presently appears to use over 3.5GB space, so I think the supplied 4GB card might soon run out of space.
I purposely did not set up the wireless on it yet because my garage get's to weak of a signal and I'm afraid , I'll get software problems if signal to unit is weak and erratic
