Was using the power balance screen on a 1998 ford ex-plorer 5.0 Vin 1FMZU35P9WZB12251.   The screen showed ok but did not function. Tried other years as well same issue. Is this a Ford software failure from Autel on a MaxiSys 908 version 5.00. I even rebooted the scanner. Any one else have these issues doing the Power balance test. Must also say it did not pick up the vin number as I had to manually install it. Thinking this function is not working and may be software issue. Regards

On ford usa it works fine for the most part. I have used it on many vehicles without an
issue, I found it to be missing on 2010 for the f150 on the 4.6 and 5.4 L and another
one can't remember which one but the rest worked perfect. Auto vin id has never failed
me on a ford either any year. Pats is the only thing that has let me down so many times
I don't even use it anymore but I know it works for some. I have not worked on a ford
vehicle prior than 2004 lately so I don't know for a fact whether it works or not.

Also make sure your vci has the latest update, I have seen how they release this vci
updates very misteriously without telling us what they are for. Every few software
update they release a vci update for some kind of communication issues they claim
that I never noticed on my part. Have no idea but they are very sneaky about it.

Hi Ede65. I didn't think about updating the vci as last time I checked it was ok. Sure enough this time there was a vci update. Vehicle has left now but will try and get back to try again. Thanks for your response. Austin

Well I got the usa 1998 Ford Explorder back and tried again.Same thing. No auto vin detect  or operating Cylinder power balance.Perhaps the Maxi Sys just doesn't have it in it to do this simple task.Autel where are you on this one?

ok ,lets see what support has to say about  this issue on monday when they get back, am sure it will get fix but it is beyond me really how can they mess this software so easily after every single update.  another thing you could do for now is to do a manually for a different model year and see if the function can be found, for example treat it as though it was a 2000 or 2001  see if that helps in anyway.

Hi ede65. I did try different years and any that showed the same  power balance screen also did not function. I can do nothing else to get it to function.Oh well lets see if Autel can get a handle on this one. Enjoy

I really would miss that feature in the DS 708 Ford Software if it were taken away in an update and would have also liked to see relative compression and relative fuel injector flow tests added besides. My guess is that Autel  removed some awesome useful Ford Software tests that looks too much like the screens displayed on WDS or IDS to be chalked up to be coincidence. If the test does come back at all , I think it's going to look  way different.
