    1997 Honda Accord 4dr sedan 1.4L
ABS light is ON. Every attempt to read the ABS fault ends with a communications error/time out of some kind.
(I wish they had an abort button so that you wouldn't have to wait so long for scans to finish).

ECU appears to be communicating as other functions seem to be working.
Check engine light is NOT on and it is able to complete an OBD scan and verifies that no OBD codes are present.

    Q. Can the Autel MaxiCOM MK808S read ABS codes for this vehicle?

Hi,1997 is a tricky one, locate the 2_ wire blue connector plugged into the holder under
the glove box with the red and the green/blue wires, jump the connector, turn on
ignition and the abs light will flash out the codes.

Thanks for the response. I have seen that remedy on Youtube, however I purchased an Autel diagnostic code reader for such things in order to avoid jumping wires together etc. I will pursue that course of action if Autel is functionally unable to do it. I guess I'll have to bump the question up to Autel support.

Hi, you do not have to do this, the reason is your car is to old ,this car is partly still
obd1. If your car was2002 it should not be a problem to read the abs codes with your
autel device.but for your car you have to do this the old way and that also will do fine.

I hear what you are saying, but by law all vehicles starting in the year 1996 were required to have OBD2. The question then becomes, were other systems such as ABS included in the OBD2 standard. From what I can gather, the OBD2 standard was primarily concerned with emissions and other systems were not specifically called out. The manufacturer may include other systems as an enhanced feature of their OBD2 functionality. Obviously, there are two different sets of fault codes. OBD2 and Dealer specific.
The ABS system fault codes still have to be read, so even at the dealership the options could only be that the ABS codes are dealer specific codes that can only be read with their software or that the dealership had to insert a jumper wire to decode the faults. Since I do not know any Honda dealership mechanics I can't verify which is true. If I were to assume that they are dealer specific codes that can be read with an OBD2 scanner with the proper software, that leads me back to my original question, can my Autel scanner read those codes?

I have in the past read fault codes on my Honda using the jumper method. The Autel scanner is a new purchase for me and it has it's limitations and like all electronics it has it's bugs. I was just curious if one of those limitations or bugs were related to my vehicle. I am awaiting a reply from tech support regarding this very issue.
